Dr. Rev Yap Kim Hao, chairman of Chen Su Lan Trust, is our trusted friend and archangel. He's been a supporter of HOME since its inception. We've survived these last five years because he came to our rescue when our funds were low and at a time when we had no means to continue. Under his patronage, we have received grants from Chen Su Lan Trust. Dr. Rev Yap Kim Hao officiated the opening of our resource centre on 13th June 2009.
On 13th December 2007, Rev. Dr. Yap Kim Hao was recognised in Singapore with a Dignity Award 2007 from the LGBT community. We applaud him for his relentless courage, vision and compassion. Currently he is the pastoral adviser of the Free Community Church.
Mr. Pim Kraan, deputy head of mission and head of the economic section at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Singapore, was our guest of honour at the 4th Anniversary 2008 of SMU 'Big Steps'. At that event he also launched our ‘Friends of HOME’ community.
In 2008, when HOME suffered tremendous difficulties, Mr. Pim Kraan was instrumental in getting our efforts recognised by his government, and, that same year, HOME received a grant of 50,000 euros from The Hague. We are indeed thankful and grateful to Mr. Pim Kraan, our friend and archangel.
Mr. Pim Kraan has also held the posts of deputy head of the humanitarian aid department at the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and director of operations for international dialogue and pool d'urgence at Médecins Sans Frontières Belgique.
Our pro bono lawyers Hoh Chin Cha, Lim Tanguy, Kelvin Chia and Dominic Nagulendran have served HOME’s beneficiaries for the past years. Some of our clients have been represented by them in court trials.
In 2005, Mr. Lim Tan Guy successfully appealed on behalf of a Thai sex trafficked victim, Nan against a charge for overstaying. In 2007, he defended Sri, an Indonesian Domestic Worker, on a charge of theft by her employer. He submitted an appeal to the High Court against her conviction by the District Court. In a land mark verdict the Indonesian Domestic Worker was acquitted.
