More than a hundred migrant domestic workers joined their teachers and HOME staff to launch the new HOME learning campus at 11 Everitt Road North on Sunday, 4th April 2010. HOME’s latest venture substantially builds on the development courses that have been running at the CyberHome location. The expanded HOME Campus now provides a range of vocational training courses for migrant domestic workers, in addition to established English language and IT programs.
HOME campus students will be able to enhance their skills and improve their employment options via practical classes such as cooking, baking, care-giving, therapy, cosmetology and dressmaking. Classes run on Sunday mornings and afternoons over a period of eight months, at a cost of $60 per course.
Many of the first students to register at the new campus were inspired to enrol in more than one course, as they were eager to take advantage of the programs offered. They consider the benefits worth the sacrifice of their off days over the months ahead, and along with learning new skills, they are also developing social connections with other students and training staff.
HOME campus is extending the enrolment period for vocational classes until the 18th April to allow the few remaining places to be filled. These are limited for each course so interested students should express their interest as soon as possible to our campus office at
221A East Coast Road or email us at
migrants.home@gmail.com.
Assessable training opportunities are an essential way for migrant domestic workers to develop new skills, gain confidence in their abilities and have a say in their future. The first HOME campus vocational students will be joining English language and IT students in a graduation ceremony on 5th December 2010.
HOME campus is a project of HOME and the Lay Scalabrinian Missionary Movement (LSMM) Nucleus in Singapore. LSMM members are also members of Solidaritas Migran Scalabrini, an NGO registered in both the Philippines and Indonesia.
