In Singapore, 30% of the workforce is migrant men and women workers. The workforce is the human capital invested in the economy. This human capital has to develop in skills and knowledge for greater productivity. Migrant workers need to have enhanced skills and knowledge to enhance their motivation to be the best they can be in whatever work they do in Singapore.
In the year 2009, we set up HOME Campus now known as HOME Academy to provide vocational skills courses for migrant domestic workers. On their days off, they are encouraged to take up courses for lifelong employability and livelihood development. Every year we produce 1000 domestic worker students with proficiency in languages, computer literacy, cooking, baking, sewing, aromatherapy, cosmetology and caregiving.
Apart for vocational skills courses, HOME has educational workshops and seminars on human rights, employment laws and international treaties to empower migrant workers on their rights as workers.
